character
These are the faces that I have decided to work on, I feel like these have a much better feel from them as the eyes aren't as intense. Here you can see that I have decided to use the eyebrow movement to portray their emotion.
character development
I wanted to keep my characters simply black and white with bold lines and only slightly sketchy. the face below was the first drawn i had drawn but i felt that it was too detailed. something about the eyes didn't feel right. so I looked back at the animations that gave me inspiration and realised that the eyes are actually kept quite simple with the eyebrows used for emotion.
For the boy below, I have decided to keep his eyes big as it shows his age.
Research
I watched loads of videos on youtube and tried to think of which styles would go best with the story.
I decided that as the song is so long I would keep it simple in the styles of simons cat, yet draw the characters similar to the ones out of how it should have ended.
First thoughts
We had a good range of briefs to choose from, So i decided to do the popular culture one as i regularly watch animations on youtube, simons cat, how it should have ended, cyanide and happiness and others.
I was struggling to come up with ideas as to what I should create for a short animation and after watching loads of popular series on youtube, I felt I wanted to do something musical but tell a story at the same time.
I am a huge Johnny Cash fan and one of my favourite songs is "A Boy Named Sue". It is a comical light hearted song that tells a clear story about a boys life. Every time I listen to the song I can picture in my head the story and how it is playing out, so I though what better way to show it than creating an animation.
